       SEASONS GREETINGS & BEST WISHES FOR A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

 

October 11, 2010
  •  We closed out the 2010 Season in great fashion with the Arvids Zakis Throws Pentathlon.  Click for Complete Results and Check out Lots of Photos including our Birthday Celebration for Arvids 90th!
  •  Arvids not only did the Throws Pent finishing in a strong 2,524pts but also did 6 throws in each event except hammer!
  •  Garry Bachman M88 showed up originally to just officiate but couldn't resist picking up implements completing the Throws Pent in 3,017pts.
  •  Max Woerle M80 capped his season with a strong 2,664pts in Throws Pent
  •  J.P. Mayer M62 set a season bestS in Throws Pent at 2,890 pts, Triathlon- 2,362pts & Shot - 13.65m
  •  Rhona Trott W61, this years Challenge Trophy winner, finished with 2,769 pts
  •  Velta Tomsons W82 threw 6.81m in Shot & 13.05m in Discus
  •  We closed the meet with a great celebration of Arvids' milestone 90th birthday & the 75th consecutive year that he has thrown!!
  •  HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO EVERYONE!

  •  We had another terrific Awards luncheon - see the Awards page for details & a complete listing of all awards as well as seasons results. Congratulations to all our award winners & to all members and friends of the Throwers Club for making this another great season.
  •  Rhona Trott W61 was the winner of the Challenge Trophy for Season Total Points - Throws Pentathlon.  She is the first female winner of this award!
  •  Garry Bachman M88 took home the Latvian Trophy with a season high Throws Pentathlon of 3,603pts.
  •  Congratulations to 2010 Hall of Fame Inductees, Velta Tomsons and Evalds Viskers. Velta is our first female member of the Throwers Club Hall of Fame

  •  Results for Sep 11th meet in Stouffville are now posted.  Season point totals for throws pentathlon, triathlon & individual events will be updated for the Annual Meeting & Awards.  Congrats to Jim Wetenhall M55 for setting an American Record of 18.91m in weight throw. More news on meet to come in email.
  •  There are 145 pictures from the Sep 11th meet posted - enjoy!
  •  Throwers Club Annual Meeting & Awards is on Sat Sep 25th starting at 1:00pm at Stouffville (behind Arvids house).  Annual meeting will be following by a great lunch organized by Renate then our Annual Awards.  It is always a fun day so come join us - only $10 per person.  Guests of members are welcome.

  •  July & August were very busy months with lots of competitions & just getting caught up on everything
  •  Results for August 14th meet in Stouffville are now posted.  Season point totals for throws pentathlon, triathlon & individual events has also been updated (click on sheet to left of Aug 14th results)
  •  Canadian Masters Results & Rankings to August 15,2010 are posted on Throwers Club & OMA sites.  Note that the Age-Graded Performance and Performance % are calculated using the new WMA2010 tables that became effective on May 1, 2010. Some of the throws pentathlon results were recalculated to the new tables.
  •  Next meet in Stouffville is Sat Sep 11th starting at 10:00am.  This is your last chance to add to your season points totals!!
  •  Mark your calendar for our Annual Meeting & Awards - Sat Sep 25th starting at 12:00 Noon with the business meeting followed by a great meal then awards.  Don' miss it!

  •  OMA Throws Pentathlon Championships - Make sure you send in your entry for mark  on your calendar for the Ontario Masters 2001 Throws Pentathlon Championships Sunday July 11th starting at 9:30am to be held at Trinity College Fields beside Varsity Stadium Click for Meet Information Register on OMA site Note that this is Throws Pentathlon only - there are no single events.  Start time has been changed to 9:30am so we can finish before the World Cup Final.
  •  Canadian Masters Results & Rankings to June 30,2010 are posted on Throwers Club & OMA sites.  Note that the Age-Graded Performance and Performance % are calculated using the new WMA2010 tables that became effective on May 1, 2010. Some of the throws pentathlon results were recalculated to the new tables.
  •  Results for Stouffville meet on June 19th are posted on the Results page.  We had a record attendance and many good results.
  •  Next meet in Stouffville is Sat Aug 14th starting at 10:00am

  •  Our next meet at Stouffville is on Saturday June 19th starting at 10:00am Remember to email by Friday June 18th if you are competing.  This enables me to prepare the scoring sheets in advance and makes it much simpler on meet day.

  •  Great Start to Season on May 15th - Despite the cool weather, our first of the season was well attended with 22 competitors.  Click for complete results. 118 Photos from the meet have been posted on the Photo GalleryMany thanks to Peter St. Pierre for an excellent job in organizing the officials.  There were some excellent early season performances:

     

    Four were over 3,000pts in Throws Pentathlon

o   Joe Myers M57 – 3,301pts

o   Dan Yoisten  M50 – 3,258pts

o   Garry Bachman M88 – 3,246pts

o   Rhona Trott W61 – 3,036pts

In Triathlon Evalds Viskers M84 led the way with 1.634 pts

o   Ana Maria Nielson W 48 – 1,255pts

o   Jim Flowers M82 – 1,018pts

o   Lana Fernley M34 – 1.103pts

In single events, new member Sharaz Shaikh M37 had a fine 52.73m in javelin .

  •  OMA Throws Pentathlon Championships - Make sure you mark Sunday July 11th on your calendar for the Ontario Masters 2010 Throws Pentathlon Championships to be held at Trinity College Fields beside Varsity Stadium.  Click for Meet InformationThis meet has been CONFIRMED and is NOT affected by the CMAA Championships being moved from Varsity Stadium to TTFC at York University.  Details are still being worked out but there will also be some Open and Para Throws events in conjunction with U of T. More news to come. 

  •  Canadian Masters Results & Rankings to May 30,2010 are posted on Throwers Club & OMA sites.  Note that the Age-Graded Performance and Performance % are calculated using the new WMA2010 tables that became effective on May 1, 2010.  Outdoor performances at the WMA Indoor Championships in Kamloops in March are all included.  If I have missed any performances or if there are any errors that need correcting, please email me with details.

  •  2010 Membership - Thanks to everyone who have renewed their membership.  If you haven't already done so, please send in your 2010 membership renewal to Barb Dabrowski.  Cost is unchanged at $25 per year.  Click for 2010 Membership Renewal Form.

  •  Spring Cleanup on Sat Apr 17th went very well - many thanks to Renate Woerle, Max Woerle, Rhona Trott, Bill Pearson & Arvids Zakis.  Bill & his wife Diane repainted the circles & painted the cage the following Saturday. Pictures from the cleanup are posted at

  •  Mark your calendar for the first meet of the year - Sat May 15th 10:00am at Stouffville

  •  Don't forget to renew your membership - if you haven't mailed it to Barb, please bring your completed form with cheque or cash to the first meet.

  •  Emil Muller is moving to Ottawa & will be joining the Throwers Club.  Fresh of two silvers in Hammer & Weight at the Worlds at Kamloops, Emil just turned 75 & is can't wait for an assault on the M75 records.

  •  Another of our throwers who will enter a new age class this summer is Max Woerle - he will turn 80 in July.  Judging by the enthusiasm that he was pounding in posts with the sledge hammer at last week's cleanup, it should be a good season for Max.

  •  A reminder that the new WMA 2010 tables are effective May 1, 2010 so be prepared M50+ & especially M80+ for lower points.

  •  There are also some implement changes this year: W75 & up now throw the 0.75K discus, 2K shot, 2K hammer & 4K weight.

  •  2010 Throwers Club Meet Schedule is now posted.  Click to download a pdf of the Full Schedule including dates for OMA, CMAA, US Masters & York Twilight Meets.

  •  Spring Cleanup Sat Apr 17th starting 10:00am.  We will be cleaning up debris on field, repainting circles & checking equipment.  Last year we completed a lot of renovations especially on the cage so this year should be easier.

  •  First meet is Sat May 15th at Stouffville, 10:00am start.

  •  If you haven't already done so, please renew your membership.

  •  The deadline for entering the WMA World Indoor Championships in Kamloops has been EXTENDED to JANUARY 20th - see attached press release. The Canadian entry packages must reach Brian Keaveney by January 20th in order to be processed in time.

The entry process is quite simple.  Read WMA Release

Mail the entry form, the proof of age, and a cheque payable to ‘CMAA’ to Brian.

  •  Best Wishes for a Happy & Prosperous New Year from your Throwers Club Executive.
  •   Next OMA Indoor Mini Meet is on Sun Jan 10th at York U starting at 12 noon.  Throwing events will be shot put & weight. Click for online entry OMA Indoor Schedule - entry deadline is Sat Jan 9th at noon.
  •  Complete results for the first Mini Meet on Sun Jan 3rd is available on OMA Results  There was some very good performances for so early in the New Year.  There is a great picture of Max Woerle M79 in Doug's OMA News.
  •  It is that time of year again - time to renew your Club membership for 2010.  Rates are the unchanged from last year at $25 per year.  Join the best and most active Masters Throwing Club in Canada.  Download Membership Form.  Note if you are a 2009 renewing member just check the box on the right side of the form, enter your name at the top & sign at the bottom.  You only need to fill in other information if there have been any changes from last year.
